Friends and Fellow Americans

This website is about the bill we know as HR 4777 and its implications to each and every person.

It is perhaps best to NOT quote excerpts of a bill for fear of being labeled as someone who twists the truths, the facts, to suite their needs. Rather than try to tell you what to think and how to interpret things, here then is a link to the bill itself.

Friends, do we need to debate the rights or wrongs of gambling? Perhaps yes, at another time. A time when those who like to gamble and those who don't can sit and find common ground. Right now though, we do have the right to choose to like gambling and the right to dislike it.

Do those who dislike gambling call those at the track, or those in Vegas, crooks and terrorists? Do they go out and tell them that they cannot gamble, and if they do, they will be locked up in jail? Do the gamblers criticize the non gamblers for choosing not to gamble? The answer my friends is no! Nobody tells anybody what they have to do. They advise them and are free to express their opinions. These are the true rights bestowed upon us by our beloved constitution.

Enter Congressman Bob Goodlatte.

A quote from the good Congressman's own web site (Refer http://www.house.gov/goodlatte/bobs bills 109/internet gambling/netsummary109.htm)

"For example, law enforcement can use such injunctions to get assistance from ISP's to remove or disable access to hypertext links to online gambling sites that violate the Act."

What does this mean? Well my friends, it means:

  • You no longer have the choice to gamble or not to gamble on the internet.
  • The government has decided that it will make this decision for us
  • It means that if we do wager our hard earned dollars at an online casino, we are now criminals
  • It means that a precedent has been set. Our government can, if they so choose, regulate freedom of choice
  • It means that they can use the internet to control what we will see and what we will not see

Do you agree with this? Will you support HR 4777?

You do actually have the choice to ignore the implications and let the bill go through. You can in fact write to your own Congressman and recommend he support the bill. Your letter will definitely be read. You can however enjoy the freedom to write to your Congressman and say no, you are totally against this kind of control over your very freedom of choice. What if he writes back and motivates the contents of the bill? I don't want to aid terrorism?

Yes indeed, since 9/11, much has been promulgated in the name of the Patriot Act. In fact you are going to find many seasoned gamblers who are outspokenly in favor of legislation that affords protection against terrorism, and a freedom from the fear that terrorism brings. So why then would we want to choose to vote this proposed legislation out? Does it in fact fund terrorism? Does it damage the social fabric of our society? Click here to read more

Wow, thats an awfully big sum of money mentioned. What about the economy?

Sadly, the government has not yet seen fit to regulate the industry. Regulation would of course make taxation on these funds possible and the resultant income could be used to fund political and social reform. You know what is really sad? The industry has shown a constant desire to be regulated. Indeed, the industry has seen fit to make numerous efforts of it's own to regulate and assure good standards. Take a look at our regulation page.

OK, I know that I don't want this bill to pass. What do I do. I am only one person!

Believe it or not, if you take the time to write your congressman, there are estimated to a good number of people who share your thoughts but didn't take the time to write. Your letter actually carries far more weight than just one lonely voice! Yes, even if you are in favor of this bill, be aware that speaking out CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Your congressman will attach a lot more value to your letter than a single lonely vote. You are in the minority who got up to say what they thought!

Who do I write to? I don't know?
